At least 126 people died while experiencing homelessness in Portland area in 2020

As Multnomah County grappled with the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, 126 people died without a home to call their own during the 2020 calendar year – a 10% increase from the previous year.

The latest “Domicile Unknown” report, produced by Multnomah County’s Health Department, the Medical Examiner’s Office and Street Roots, a local newspaper and homeless advocacy organization, showed that none of those deaths were attributed to COVID-19. However, some COVID-19 deaths may have been omitted because individuals hospitalized for at least 24 hours – even if they were homeless – are not included in this report.
