Portland homicide detective says unit ‘overwhelmed’ with record violence
Overwhelmed — that’s how a Portland homicide detective describes the unit he works on. And as a result, 2021 ended with the lowest percentage of closed homicide cases in Portland in the last decade.
“As somebody who signed up to be a police officer and became a detective and a homicide detective to solve cases, I wish we could do more,” Detective Ryan Foote said. “Most of us are working, at the end of our day, we’re going home and then working into the night.”
